The Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) in Zimbabwe has stated that Felton Kamambo must inform FIFA that he is no longer the president of the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA). This comes after Kamambo was removed from his position by SRC in 2021, which cited maladministration.
The SRC is the government body responsible for overseeing all sports and recreational activities in Zimbabwe, including football. In this case, the SRC is asserting its authority over ZIFA by insisting that Kamambo must step down as president and notify FIFA.
FIFA is the international governing body for football and has its own regulations and procedures for dealing with disputes within national football associations. However, the SRC's position is that Kamambo's removal was a matter of Zimbabwean law and that FIFA should respect the country's due process.
FIFA views SRC actions as government interference. However, SRC is sending a clear message that Kamambo's actions will not be recognized by the government body responsible for overseeing sports in Zimbabwe.
