President Mnangagwa appoints wife to Politburo ahead of elections

The Zimbabwe African National Union - Patriotic Front (Zanu-PF) is the ruling political party in Zimbabwe. Founded in 1963, Zanu-PF has played a central role in the country's political landscape for over 50 years.

The party's highest decision-making body is the Politburo, which is responsible for setting party policy and making decisions on party matters. The Politburo is composed of top party officials, including the party's president, vice presidents, and secretary for administration.

The Zanu-PF Politburo meets regularly to discuss and make decisions on a range of issues, including party strategy, policy, and organization. It is also responsible for managing the party's internal affairs, including disciplinary action against party members who violate party rules or policies.

In addition to the Politburo, Zanu-PF also has a Central Committee, which is responsible for implementing party policy and carrying out the decisions of the Politburo. The Central Committee is made up of members elected from each of the party's provinces and includes representatives from various sectors of society, such as women, youth, and workers.

Zanu-PF is a nationalist party that has long been associated with the struggle for independence in Zimbabwe. The party was founded by Robert Mugabe, who led the country as its first prime minister and then as president from 1980 until his death in 2019.

Mugabe was a key figure in the liberation struggle against colonial rule and played a central role in shaping the party's ideology and policies.

Under Mugabe's leadership, Zanu-PF pursued a number of policies aimed at improving the lives of ordinary Zimbabweans, including land reform, education, and healthcare.

However, the party's rule was also marked by controversy and criticism, including allegations of human rights abuses and corruption.

In the years following Mugabe's death, Zanu-PF has faced a number of challenges, including a deteriorating economy and growing political opposition.

However, the party has remained a powerful force in Zimbabwean politics and continues to hold a dominant position in the country's parliament.

In addition to its political activities, Zanu-PF also has a strong social and cultural presence in Zimbabwe. The party has a number of affiliated organizations, including the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) and the Zimbabwe Youth League (ZYL), which play a role in promoting the party's values and ideals.

Overall, the Zanu-PF Politburo is a central component of the party's governance and decision-making structure. As the highest decision-making body of the party, it plays a key role in shaping the direction of Zanu-PF and influencing the policies and actions of the party.
